Lady In The Water is one of the best films I have ever seen. The sad thing is that the advertising for this film was handled so badly that most people are expecting a twisted horror film. In fact, Lady in the Water is a well crafted bedtime story woven through with rich Eastern mythology.
Paul Giamatti gives the performance of a lifetime and Bryce Dallas Howard avoids the pitfalls of over-playing a mythical character. The biggest surprise comes in the form of
M. Night Shyamalan showing up as, not a cameo, but as a pivotal character. I had no idea he was able to act so well. The rest of the cast is well rounded and believable.I will not give away any of the twists and turns of this film.
I will tell you this, pay attention! As she was leaving the theatre, I heard a woman ask, "Why did she----(Spoiler)-----?"And I thought to myself, "To know that, you would have had to listen to the beginning of the film."Finally, a film where paying attention to the plot helped me enjoy it not rip it to shreds.
